From the 101 North

Exit at Mulholland Drive/Valley Circle Blvd. Stay in the two right lanes on the exit ramp.
Turn right on Valley Circle Blvd. 

The school is 1/2 mile ahead on the right.

From the 101 South

Exit at Mulholland Drive/Valley Circle Blvd. Stay in the two left lanes on the exit ramp.
Turn left at the end of the exit ramp, then make an immediate left turn on Valley Circle Blvd.

The school is 1/2 mile ahead on the right.


Parking is available in the faculty and student lots. To get there from Valley Circle Blvd., after you pass Mariano Street, make an immediate right turn into the first driveway.

Finding your Way

You can enter through the main entrance facing Valley Circle Blvd. or through the south door which is visible from the parking lot. The tournament will be held in the main building, in the B Hall and the C Hall. Registration and the judges lounge will be in the Library. Students should go to the Quad. In the event of rain, students should go to Anderson Hall.

Public Forum Topic (February) (5 Qualifiers):  
Resolved: The United States should abolish the capital gains tax.

LD Topic (March/April) (7 Qualifiers):   Resolved: The United States ought to provide a universal basic income.

Policy Topic (5 Qualifiers)Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its funding and/or regulation of elementary and/or secondary education in the United States.

Parliamentary Topic (5 Qualifiers):  Announced 20 minutes before each round.

EntriesOnly students who have completed a TCFL Open Tournament or Congress during the ‘17-'18 season may enter as well as only schools that have paid their CHSSA Dues.

Fees: $30 per Policy, PoFo and Parli Teams, $15 per Lincoln-Douglas. Each school is limited to 7 entries in LD and 4 entries in all team events. Make check payable to TCFL. League and CHSSA dues must be previously paid or entries will not be accepted.

Judges: Each school is obligated to provide one experienced judge per every 2 Teams*, and one experienced judge per every 3 Lincoln Douglas entries* (*or fraction thereof).  All required judges must be available to judge one round beyond their commitment.

Deadline:  All entries must be entered in no later than Wednesday, February 21, 2018 by 10pm. *Also, it’s imperative that you enter your entries in rank order. If you have any questions, please send email to

This is a tentative schedule that depends on entries.  Each category can be run separately which means Parli and PoFo could run every hour and a half and LD can be single flighted at any time.  Also, there is a chance some categories could go beyond 7 rounds. 

** Note: Food will be sold between rounds. Do not leave the campus.

Because of the differences that exist in human perception, a subjective quality is present in the scoring of Speech and Debate rounds. Even with rules and evaluation criteria for guidance,  judges will not evaluate the same performance in an identical manner. While we do everything possible to maintain consistency in scoring, winning results are not guaranteed.
