Directions to Oaks Christian HS

Coming from the 101 going west (out of LA), exit at Lindero Canyon Rd.  Turn right and go to the first light (Via Colinas)  Turn left and go to the first light (Via Rocas)  Turn left and go to the second drive way (the first behind Calvary church)  turn right and go until you enter the underground parking garage.  The High School building will be on your left.  Go up the stairs from the parking garage, turn right, walk downhill, then left and to the front of the building which is directly across from the Gymnasium.  Directions will be posted as to where to go.

Coming from the 101 going east (out of Ventura),  exit at South Westlake Blvd.  Turn left and go over interstate.  At the first light turn right (E Thousand Oaks Blv).  Go to the second light and turn right (S. Lakeview Canyon Rd) Go to the stop sign before another bridge crossing interstate.  Turn left (La Tienda Rd.)  turn left into the school and go up the hill.  A parking garage is at the top of the hill.  Walk down the hill to the front of the school, across from the gymnasium.  Directions will be posted as to where to go.

Public Forum Topic (February) (5 Qualifiers):   
Resolved: The United States should lift its embargo against Cuba.

LD Topic (March/April) (6 Qualifiers):   Resolved: The United States ought to guarantee the right to housing.

Policy Topic (6 Qualifiers):  Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People’s Republic of China.

Parliamentary Topic (5 Qualifiers):  Announced 20 minutes before each round.

EntriesOnly students who have completed a TCFL Open Tournament or Congress during the ‘16-'17 season may enter as well as only schools that have paid their CHSSA Dues.

Fees: $30 per Policy, PoFo and Parli Teams, $15 per Lincoln-Douglas. Each school is limited to 7 entries in LD and 4 entries in all team events. Make check payable to TCFL. League and CHSSA dues must be previously paid or entries will not be accepted.

Judges: Each school is obligated to provide one experienced judge per every 2 Teams*, and one experienced judge per every 3 Lincoln Douglas entries* (*or fraction thereof).  All required judges must be available to judge one round beyond their commitment.

Deadline:  All entries must be entered in Tabroom.com no later than Wednesday, February 22, 2017, by 12am. *Also, it’s imperative that you enter your entries in rank order. If you have any questions, please send email to jrobinson9812@att.net.

3:30 - 5:00 - Round 6

5:00 - 6:30 - Round 7

This is a tentative schedule that depends on entries.  Each category can be run separately which means Parli and PoFo could run every hour and a half and LD can be single flighted at any time.  Also, there is a chance some categories could go beyond 7 rounds. 

** Note: Food will be sold between rounds. Do not leave the campus.

Because of the differences that exist in human perception, a subjective quality is present in the scoring of Speech and Debate rounds. Even with rules and evaluation criteria for guidance,  judges will not evaluate the same performance in an identical manner. While we do everything possible to maintain consistency in scoring, winning results are not guaranteed.
