Directions to Monroe:  From the 405 Freeway, exit at Nordhoff.  The school is 2 blocks west of the
                  Freeway, at the intersection of Nordhoff and Haskell.  Enter the parking lot off Haskell.

Fees:           Due at registration (please!)  Make checks payable to Monroe Speech Trust
                  School Fee:  $20 plus:
                  $20.00 per PF or Parli team; $10.00 per LD,
                  $20.00 per Duo Interp; all other I.E.s $10.00

Topics:        January Public Forum Debate Topic: Resolved: That, by 2040, the federal government
                  should mandate that all new passenger vehicles and light trucks sold in the United States
                  be powered by alternative fuels.

   
                  Jan/Feb LD Debate Topic:  Resolved: The United States ought to submit to the
                  jurisdiction of an international court designed to prosecute crimes against humanity.

                      (This topic will also be argued at Berkeley and Stanford)


Judges:        Each school is asked to bring one judge per every 2 PF or Parli teams*, one
                  qualified judge per every 4 LD entries*, and one judge per every 12 I.E.s*
                  *or fraction thereof.  NOTE: PARENT JUDGES WILL BE FED DELICIOUSLY;
                  COLLEGE JUDGES WILL BE REWARDED A $10 BILL + ALL THEY CAN EAT!


Entry Limit:  Quadruple entry allowed in IEs, but no more than 2 events per pattern.  Extemp is
the
                  exception--do NOT double enter in pattern ‘A’ if you are in Extemp.  Top Speaker
                  Trophy will go to the Individual competitor with the greatest number of category wins.

Paneling:     NONE!  Just make sure you get your entry in by the deadline.  Mr. Robinson of Granada
                 will panel debate using the computer program, with power matching in round 3.

                 We will also computer panel the IEs during the Friday night debate tournament and
                 Monroe team members will put together the ballot packs. The only duty coaches have is 
                 to get your kids there on time, bring your judges and your fees, and help with tabbing.

Entry          10 PM Tuesday, January 13; Drop Deadline Wednesday January 14
